Community Development

Choosing Whole Earth Recycling means you’re choosing to support a community, which includes 24 Hawk Flight sorters and a team of around 40 people, from the admin team to the drivers and truck assistants, as well as everyone in between.

Whole Earth Organic Farm

In an effort to divert as much waste from landfill as possible and to encourage sustainable lifestyle habits, husband and wife team Danie and Carmen Jordaan launched Whole Earth Organic Farm in July 2022. Their premises in Chartwell, Johannesburg is a free garden waste dump site, which offers anyone who is looking to dispose of garden waste in a responsible manner a place to dispose of their garden waste such as lawn cuttings, leaves and branches free of charge. The company also offers a food waste collection service to houses and turns these kitchen scraps combined with the garden waste into beautiful nutrient-rich compost. Making composting at home effortlessly fuss-free, the service is simple and rewarding: Whole Earth Organic Farm collects your organic food waste weekly and at the end of the month you receive it right back as a 2kg bag of nutrient-rich compost to feed your garden, herbs or pot plants. Saving the planet is that easy!

Where it all started

Our Story

Whole Earth Recycling was founded at Cluny Farm in 2007 with just four sorters. Our intention was to provide a reliable and hassle-free recycling solution to people interested in recycling, but who didn’t quite know where to start. Eventually, Whole Earth Recycling found a home in Strijdom Park, where we launched a project to uplift the community through job creation and education.

Hawk Flight

Thanks to the loyal support of our valued customers, Whole Earth Recycling has grown substantially over the past few years and now support a group of 35 sorters who call themselves Hawk Flight. Hawk Flight sort and sell the recyclable materials that Whole Earth Recycling collects to generate an income for themselves.

The founder of Whole Earth Recycling Carmen Jordaan and her husband Danie Jordaan wanted to make an even bigger difference and so in July 2022 Whole Earth Organic Farm was born.

Their main goal was to divert as much waste from landfill as possible and they’ve done just that! By recycling your dry recyclable waste such as paper, plastic, glass, cans, cartons (liquid board packaging), and electronic waste (anything with a plug), making use of Whole Earth Organic Farm’s food waste collection service and dropping off your garden waste at the Whole Earth Organic Farm free garden waste dump site, you will send very little to no waste to our overflowing landfill sites! Protecting our environment couldn’t be easier!
